UNLOOK for WordPress
How to put the UNLOOK chat on your WordPress site, set it up, and take it off again. The UNLOOK plugin adds it for you, so there is no code to paste.

What it does
UNLOOK is an AI receptionist for your website. On your WordPress site it shows as a chat button. It answers your visitors from your own business information, takes their name and contact when they want to hear from you, and emails you each lead.
The UNLOOK plugin does one job: it puts that chat on every page of your site, so you never have to paste code. If you’d rather paste one line yourself, you can do that instead.
Before you start
You need three things:
- An UNLOOK account. No account yet? Start on unlook.in.
- Your WordPress login, as an Administrator. Only an Administrator can connect the plugin.
- A WordPress site that lets you add plugins. Both ways on this page use one. On WordPress.com, you need a plan that allows plugins. When UNLOOK sees your site is on WordPress.com, Get live shows no plugin steps. Use “Paste it yourself” instead.
Connect your site
- Log in at app.unlook.in and open Get live. Under Your website is built with, choose WordPress.
- Press Download the plugin. It is one small file.
- Press Open my upload page. Your WordPress opens at the page for adding a plugin from a file. If it asks you to log in, use your Administrator login. Choose the file you downloaded, install it, then activate it.
- In WordPress, open Settings → UNLOOK and press Connect UNLOOK. UNLOOK opens. If it asks you to log in, use your UNLOOK login.
- UNLOOK shows your website’s address and asks whether to connect it. If it is yours, press Connect this site. You go straight back to WordPress, which says “This site is connected.” The chat is now on every page of your site.
Check the address. Press Connect this site only if the website shown is yours. If it isn’t, press Not mine and nothing is connected. The chat goes on your site only after you press Connect this site.
Paste it yourself
Rather not add the UNLOOK plugin? You can paste UNLOOK’s line yourself, with the free WPCode plugin. To get your line, open Get live in UNLOOK, open Add it yourself instead and press Copy.
- Install the free plugin WPCode (Plugins → Add New).
- Open Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
- Paste the line into Footer and press Save.
UNLOOK notices the chat on your site by itself. Until it does, Get live says “Waiting to see it on your website.”
Set it up
- Check what it knows. Open Receptionist. UNLOOK only answers from what is written there, so make sure your prices, hours and services are right. Anything your website didn’t say, add it.
- Make it look like your site. Open Settings, then Website. Under Chat look you choose the chat’s colour, picture, font and corners. Where you choose nothing, the chat follows your website’s own colour, font and corners. Your visitors see your business’s name, not ours.
- Let visitors book a time, if you want that. Open Receptionist, then Booking. Under Online booking, switch on Take bookings online.
- Go live. Back on Get live, press Go live. Until then, visitors see your offline message.
Day to day
- A visitor opens the chat on your site and asks a question. UNLOOK answers from your information, at any hour.
- When they leave a name and a way to reach them, you get an email. The lead waits in Leads, and the whole conversation is in Inbox.
- When it can’t answer a question, it tells the visitor so and puts the question under Needs you. Press Add answer, write the answer once and press Add to FAQs. It uses it from the next chat on.
What it adds to your site
With the plugin: one script at the end of every page, and the Settings → UNLOOK page in your WordPress. The script is a small file from app.unlook.in that loads the chat after your page has loaded. The plugin keeps one setting: your business’s UNLOOK id, the same public id the chat carries on every page. It stores no passwords or keys, and none of your pages, posts or styles is changed.
Pasted yourself: the one line you pasted into the Footer box in WPCode. It loads the chat after your page has loaded and needs no keys or passwords.
What connecting gives UNLOOK:
- Your site’s address. The plugin sends it when you press Connect UNLOOK, and nothing before.
- One check. While you connect, UNLOOK asks your site once to confirm it was your site that asked. Your site answers only during a connect you started.
WordPress gives UNLOOK no login and no key. So UNLOOK can’t change your pages, posts, users or settings.
Take it off
- In WordPress, open Settings → UNLOOK and press Disconnect. The chat leaves your site straight away.
- In UNLOOK, open Settings, then Website. Next to Connected to WordPress, press Disconnect.
Start in WordPress. Disconnecting in UNLOOK alone changes nothing on your WordPress site, so the chat would stay there. Your leads and chats stay in your UNLOOK dashboard. You can also deactivate the plugin, or delete it: deleting it also deletes its one setting.
Pasted the line yourself? Open Code Snippets → Header & Footer, delete the line from Footer and press Save.
If something isn’t right
There’s no UNLOOK under Settings in WordPress. The plugin isn’t activated yet, or you aren’t logged in as an Administrator. Activate the plugin, or log in with an Administrator login.
WordPress says “That didn’t finish”. The approval ran out or was already used. Press Connect UNLOOK again and finish within 30 minutes.
WordPress says it “Couldn’t reach UNLOOK from this site”. Try again in a minute. If it keeps happening, your web host may be blocking outgoing connections. Ask your host, or paste the line yourself (see “Paste it yourself”).
UNLOOK says the website is already connected to another UNLOOK account. It has to be disconnected in that account first, under Settings, then Website.
Get live still says “Waiting to see it on your website”. Press Check my site now there. UNLOOK looks at your website and tells you what it finds.
Someone else looks after my website. On Get live, open Add it yourself instead. Under Not technical?, press Email it to whoever updates my website, type their email and press Send it. Or press Install it for me, then Ask UNLOOK to install it.
