UNLOOK for Squarespace

How to put the UNLOOK chat on your Squarespace site, set it up, and take it off again. It takes one line, pasted once.

What it does

UNLOOK is an AI receptionist for your website. On your Squarespace site it shows as a chat button. It answers your visitors from your own business information, takes their name and contact when they want to hear from you, and emails you each lead.

There is no app to connect for Squarespace. You paste one line into your site’s settings, once, or we do it for you.

Before you start

You need three things:

  • An UNLOOK account. No account yet? Start on unlook.in.
  • Your Squarespace login, the one you use to edit your website.
  • A Squarespace site on the Core plan or higher. The line goes in Code injection, which needs that plan.

Paste it yourself

  1. Log in at app.unlook.in and open Get live. Under Your website is built with, choose Squarespace, then press Copy beside your line.
  2. In Squarespace, open Settings → Developer tools → Code injection (or search your settings for “code injection”).
  3. Paste the line into Footer.
  4. Press Save. (Needs the Core plan or higher.)

Back on Get live, the step updates by itself. Once the chat loads on your site, it shows Seen on your website, and we email you. To look straight away, press Check my site now.

Not technical? Under the steps on Get live, press Email it to whoever updates my website, type their email and press Send it. They get your line and the Squarespace steps, and their reply comes to you. Or press Install it for me, then Ask UNLOOK to install it. It’s included in your setup. We email you within one business day, and we put it on for you. We never ask for your password: you invite us as a collaborator instead.

Set it up

  1. Check what it knows. Open Receptionist. UNLOOK only answers from what is written there, so make sure your prices, hours and services are right. Anything your website didn’t say, add it.
  2. Make it look like your site. Open Settings, then Website. Under Chat look you choose the chat’s colour, picture, font and corners. Where you choose nothing, the chat follows your website’s own colour, font and corners. Your visitors see your business’s name, not ours.
  3. Let visitors book a time, if you want that. Open Receptionist, then Booking, and switch on Take bookings online. Visitors then pick a free time in the chat.
  4. Go live. Back on Get live, press Go live. Until then, visitors see your offline message.

Day to day

  • A visitor opens the chat on your site and asks a question. UNLOOK answers from your information, at any hour.
  • When they leave a name and a way to reach them, you get an email. The lead waits in Leads, and the whole conversation is in Inbox.
  • When it can’t answer a question, it tells the visitor so and puts the question under Needs you. Press Add answer, write the answer once, and it uses it from the next chat on.

What it adds to your site

One line, in Footer under Code injection. It loads a small script from app.unlook.in, which shows the chat as a button in the corner. It only works on your website, loads after the page, and needs no keys or passwords.

Nothing else is added, and your pages, styles and content stay as they are. There is no UNLOOK app in your Squarespace account: unless you invite us to install it for you, UNLOOK has no access to your Squarespace account at all.

Take it off

  1. In Squarespace, open Settings → Developer tools → Code injection.
  2. Under Footer, delete the line with app.unlook.in in it. Leave anything else there as it is.
  3. Press Save.

With the line gone, the chat no longer shows on your site, and nothing else on it changes. Our daily check may then email you that it can’t find UNLOOK on your site. If you took it off on purpose, you can ignore that email.

Only want it to stop answering for a while? Leave the line where it is. In UNLOOK, open Settings, then Answering, and switch it off. Visitors then see your offline message.

If something isn’t right

There’s no Code injection in my Squarespace settings. Search your settings for “code injection”. It needs the Core plan or higher, so check your site’s plan in Squarespace.

I pasted the line, but Get live still says it’s waiting. Press Check my site now. If it doesn’t see the line yet, make sure it is in Footer and that you pressed Save, then check again.

Get live says my address isn’t on my list of sites. UNLOOK found the line, but the chat won’t answer at that address yet. Press the button in that message: it says Allow and then your site’s address.

Get live says the UNLOOK line on my site isn’t mine. That is usually the line from your demo. Your own line is in UNLOOK: open Settings, then Website, and press Copy under Install code. In Squarespace, under Footer in Code injection, replace the old line with yours and press Save.

I got an email saying you can’t find UNLOOK on my site. The email says why. Open Code injection in Squarespace and check the line is still in Footer. If it isn’t, copy your line again (see above), paste it back and press Save.
